The various burn classifications

There are four degrees of burns. The type of burn a person is diagnosed with will determine how it’s treated, their level of pain, and how much suffering they’re likely to go through. First degree burns generally heal in a few days and involve only the outer layer of skin. Second degree burns involve both the outer and inner layers of sink, can be extremely painful, and may take weeks to heal. In some instances, a skin graft may be required.

Third degree burns involve all layers of the skin and often don’t involve pain because the nerves are completely gone. Healing can take months or years and skin grafts are often required. Permanent scarring is likely as well. Fourth degree burns involve the nerves, muscles, and bones. These will always involve scarring and are the worst types of burns.
