One person is dead and another injured after a suspected DUI driver caused a multi-vehicle accident.
On Wednesday, September 20, one motorist was killed and at least one other was injured in a seven-vehicle pileup just east of Riverside CA. Officials report that the suspected cause of the accident was a drunk driver. This individual was driving erratically in what witnesses described as a street racing contest. As the other vehicles attempted to avoid him, several collisions occurred.
The car accident occurred at around 4:30 pm in an unincorporated area near Riverside. This area falls under the jurisdiction of the California Highway Patrol, who reported that the primary vehicles involved in the accident were a BMW sedan and a Nissan Sentra.
After hitting the Nissan, the driver of the BMW initially fled the scene. However, he was later identified as Anthony Lopez of Moreno Valley. He is now in custody.
A 62-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, and another person was taken to the local hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries. The other vehicles involved in the accident were not seriously damaged and none of their occupants were injured.
