Vaping and E-Cigarette Users Continue to Get Sick: Learn What You Can Do if You Have Suffered a Vaping Injury

You would be hard-pressed to find a person using an e-cigarette or vape pen who has not at least heard about the dangers of these products yet many people continue to use them. This article covers some of the specifics of the injuries and sicknesses seen with these products.

The CDC Reports a Growing Number of E-Cigarette Users with Severe Lung Disease

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, e-cigarette users in 22 states have developed severe lung disease – and a total of 200 have been involved. However, a story from the Washington Post claims that more than 350 people have developed lung disease due to e-cigarettes and vaping. Almost all of these cases involve teenagers and young adults.

The Specific Cause of the Lung Problems is Not Entirely Clear

What we do know is that the lung issues are causing catastrophic results and even death. Experts cannot confirm that vaping caused the lung problems in question but they believe that it is likely there is a contaminant – not an infectious agent – causing these illnesses and deaths. This could include allergic reactions, immune reactions, or chemical irritation to a variety of substances and chemicals found within inhaled vapors.

Common Symptoms of Lung Problems Associated with E-Cigarettes and Vaping

In most instances, symptoms began gradually with shortness of breath. The victim then experienced chest pain and eventually had such a difficult time breathing that they had to be admitted to the hospital. Not all followed this schedule, others suffered different injuries, but involved lung issues.

Many Officials Are Working to Find the Right Way Forward

As of today, this lung disease has not been linked to a type of e-cigarette, flavor, or brand. It has happened with a variety of vaping products, some with nicotine and some without. Many organizations are coming together to provide help in determining the cause and finding a cure.

For example, the FDA and CDC are both looking at cases to try to find commonalities that could lead to more information on the causes of the disease. Once they knew the cause, it would be easier to find out both how to prevent the issue and how to treat it. Many states are taking aim at finding this information too – including California.
