Could a Stunt Man’s Burns Lead to a Personal Injury Claim

Most everyone loves to watch a good movie. That’s why the most traditional date on the planet is dinner and a movie. Everyone has different taste in movies, but it’s common to want to watch a hero walk into a dangerous situation and save the innocent victim. While we’re watching these scenes, we may not pause to wonder what went into creating them.

Stunt men and stunt women do a dangerous job. They go to work knowing that they could be hurt at any point of their job. It’s true that they assume quite a bit of risk just by doing their daily job. As a result, it is essential that the studio does everything possible to ensure the workplace is as safe as possible for the stunt people working on it. But what happens if they fail to meet that burden?

A recent accident may answer that question

The L.A. Fire Department ended up being called to a movie set earlier this year. The reason they were called is that a movie was being shot in which an explosion actually injured a stunt man. He ended up with serious burn injuries as a result of the filming.

The accident happened at just after 2:30 in the afternoon on a set on West Academy Road in the Elysian Park region. According to those who were there, an explosion happened and the firefighters were called. When they got there, they found that the stunt man was lying on the ground and had been injured. Paramedics go there shortly after to treat his injuries. They stabilized him at the scene and then took him to the closest hospital where he was treated by staff doctors. They declared him in critical condition.

Now the hard part happens: What caused the accident?

You can count on the fact that the cause of the explosion and the circumstances around it will be investigated by both the studio and the police. The official word from the fire department is that the victim could possibly have been using black powder. This could have led to the accident that injured him. If that’s the case, then he may or may not have legal recourse, depending on whether or not he was required to have the black powder.

The victim should talk to a personal injury attorney

Regardless of the eventual cause of the accident, it’s important for the burn victim to call a personal injury attorney to find out what their options are. In the event you can’t do so himself, then his loved ones should call on his behalf. The reality is that he may be eligible for damages for his injuries. If the studio failed to protect him, or if someone else’s actions – or inactions – lead to the explosion, then they may be responsible for his medical expenses, long-term care costs, lost wages, etc. If you or a loved one is in a similar situation, reach out to Law Offices of Fernando D.
