Once Again, Many California Cities Top List of Worst Cities for Drivers

Southern Californians have many things to be grateful for, including the near constant sunshine, great weather, and incredible beaches. That said, there are a few downsides to living in arguably the best part of the country. One of those disadvantages is the fact that cities in this area are consistently named some of the worst for car accidents.

In fact, a recent report showed that three of the ten worst cities in the United States for driving are located within Southern California. Read on to find out which cities they are and then reach out to Law Offices of Fernando D. Vargas at 909-982-0707 if you have been injured in a car accident and need legal assistance.

There were 17 California cities in total

There were 17 California cities on the list of the worst 50 in the country. Detroit was considered the worst, but San Francisco was not far behind in second place. Oakland showed up at third worst in the country and Los Angeles made it to ninth place. It is clear that there are cities and clusters within the state that are more dangerous than others.

Why are California roads so dangerous?

When considering these statistics it is normal to then wonder: Why is California so consistently ranking so poorly? The main reason is that there are simply more people living here. According to recent Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, more than 85% of people across the country drive to work. When you consider the large number of people within the state of California, and the many cities with underutilized public transportation, it is easy to see that there are going to be a high number of car accidents here.

Then consider that California is a state often visited by tourists. When you have millions of people on the roads who are in unfamiliar cities, it stands to reason that they may not be as safe on the roads as others. Finally, it is important to think about the fact that there are so many leisure activities in the state that some people may simply be tired or distracted while driving.

What to do if you are in a California car accident

If you are in an accident on California road, whether it involves pedestrians, trucks, buses, or a motorcycle, then the first thing you should do is call 9-1-1 if anyone is injured. Stay at the scene of the accident. If there are no injuries then you should report the accident to law enforcement. Take photos of the crash site and damage done. Get contact information from everyone at the scene.

Then contact your insurance company to inform them of the crash. Give them only the basics: The time the accident occurred and who was involved. Then reach out to a personal injury attorney who can ensure that the rest of your correspondence is done with your best interests in mind. Contact Law Offices of Fernando D.
