“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign designed to prevent drunk driving accidents this holiday season.

NHTSA Works Hard to Prevent Holiday Drunk Driving Are you looking forward to going to the movies with your family this holiday? In the two hours it takes you to watch that movie, two Americans could be killed by drunk drivers.
And during the holidays, this average rate of drunk driving deaths could get even higher, as many people choose to celebrate the season by drinking at parties and then underestimate their ability to drive themselves home safely.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is well aware of the dangers that drunk drivers pose to themselves and others—especially during the holidays—and they are doing everything they can to keep the roads safe.

New Ads to Show During Star Wars Movie

One step the NHTSA has taken is to launch a new ad campaign reminding everyone that it is illegal to drive with a BAC over 0.08, and that if you do plan to drink, you also need to have a plan for getting home safely. If you go see the new Star Wars movie at a Regal Theaters location, you might see this ad for yourself, as the NHTSA has partnered with Regal to include their ad in the previews for Star Wars on movie screens nationwide.

Holiday Drunk Driving Enforcement Crackdown

Another important step taken by the NHTSA is to team up with local law enforcement to more aggressively stop and prosecute drunk drivers during the holidays. This year, more than 10,000 local law enforcement agencies will participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which will run from December 16 to January 2. During this campaign officers will be careful to stop any driver who shows evidence of impairment, such as weaving or inability to maintain a consistent speed. Additionally, drivers who get stopped for other traffic infractions will be carefully observed for any sign that they may have been drinking or using drugs.

Ride-Finding App

Recognizing that many drunk drivers get behind the wheel because they cannot figure out any other way to get home after a party, the NHTSA is also promoting its SaferRide app, which can be used to call a taxi or a friend for a ride. Holiday revelers can download the app for iOS and Android.

Injured by a Drunk Driver?

If you have been injured in an accident with a drunk driver, the good news is that liability is likely to pretty clearly fall on the drunk driver. If this is the case you can seek compensation for your injuries from their insurance company. To make sure you receive full and fair compensation, do not initiate any interactions with the insurance company without first seeking advice from a qualified car accident injury attorney like Fernando D. Vargas. For your free initial consultation with Attorney Vargas, please call 909-982-0707 now.
