Excited fan causes minor freeway accident after spotting a celebrity driver.

Celebrity Sightings: A Unique Danger for LA Drivers? There are many unique pleasures of living in the LA area, and for many people, the opportunity for a chance encounter with a celebrity is one of them. But, as the following anecdote shows, such an encounter could turn into a disaster if you are not careful.

In a recent interview, actress Ruby Rose recounted an incident that took place when an excited fan glimpsed her while driving on a Los Angeles area freeway. Rose, who has enjoyed a high profile recently after her role in the latest season of the TV show “Orange is the New Black,” said she was “horrified” when a fellow driver took their eyes off the road to wave at her.

She said: “I was like, ‘No, no, you have to look at the road,’ and they put their brakes on, but they did it too late and it was just enough to bump the car in front of them.”

Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident. There may not have even been any property damage by the sound of things. But it does raise an important point about distracted driving:

Anything that takes a driver’s attention from the road can be dangerous.

And when distracted drivers cause accidents, they open themselves up to liability for any resulting injuries and losses.

What Is Distracted Driving?

There are three main types of distractions that can interfere with a driver’s ability to react properly and responsibly to road and traffic conditions:

  • Distractions that take the eyes off the road
  • Distractions that take the hands off the wheel
  • Distractions that take the mind off of driving

Proving Distracted Driving in a Personal Injury Case

If you have been injured in a car accident caused by a distracted driver, proving the nature and existence of the distraction may be very helpful to your case. However, it is not necessarily required. This is fortunate because while it may be relatively easy to prove that a driver took their eyes off the road to read a text message just before the accident, it can be all but impossible to prove that they were mentally distracted by a daydream or deep conversation.

In any case, the distraction will have caused the driver to make some sort of error, and so long as you can prove they made this error and the error caused your injuries, it is not necessarily vital to establish why they made the error.
