Drowning Accident Statistics

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • In California drowning is the number one cause of death for children under the age of 14.
  • Between 2005 and 2014 approximately 10 people per day died from non-boating related drownings.
  • Between 1999 and 2010 more than 5.5 times as many African American children aged 5 to 19 drowned as white children.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), drowning is the second leading cause of death for young people aged 5 to 24.
