Is It Really Possible to Reduce Fatal Car Accidents to Zero by 2050?

No one wants there to be more car accidents. No one wants to see fatal car accidents on the rise, yet that is what has been happening across the United States. Can you guess how many people die every day?

It is unlikely that there’s anyone who does not know that there are fatal accidents on the roads but many people are shocked to learn the extent of these fatalities. For example, nationwide an average of 100 die every single day in fatal car accidents. This is a shockingly large number but the truth is even more tragic: Many of those accidents were entirely preventable.

The National Safety Council has a goal: No accidents by 2050

The National Safety Council has come up with a goal that seems overly ambitious to many: No car accidents by the year 2050. The CEO of the National Safety Council says that this goal is similar to the goal of getting to the moon. She says that just 50 years ago, getting to the moon seemed like an impossibility but it happened. She says that with the right leadership, use of technology, and commitment, we can reduce car accidents to zero.

What steps are going to be taken?

The Transportation Safety Coalition has come up with a report that specifies what steps can be taken to reduce auto fatalities to zero by 2050. Of course, this will require the entire country to work together. The first thing they note is that seatbelt use must be increased to 100%. At the moment, about 90% of drivers wear seatbelts. Consider that the 10% who do not make up half of the people who die in car accidents.

This is just the first step to be taken but you can see based on the statistics that just a single step like increasing seatbelt use can have a big impact. At Law Offices of Fernando D. Vargas, we will continue to watch as new options are brought to the forefront. In the meantime, we are here to help those who have been the victim of a car accident. Whether you were injured yourself or your loved one lost their life, now is the time to call for a free legal consultation.
