Is ‘Fair Insurance’ a Viable Option to Get New Uber Drivers on the Road?

Uber has been a presence in California for many years but a new offer from the company may make it easier than ever before for those without a car to get in on the business model. Keep reading to discover the facts about what’s known as Fair insurance. If you are injured in an accident with an Uber driver, or as an Uber driver, contact Law Offices of Fernando D. Vargas at 909-982-0707 for a free legal consultation.

Uber is Partnering with a Startup Company Called Fair

The company, Fair, offers vehicles to drivers for just a $500 down payment and low payments each month. Uber has partnered with this company to help would-be drivers get access to vehicles. The drivers are then able to offset their payments to Fair with a certain number of drivers per week. It can start as little as $130 per week for drivers. Drivers may also appreciate that, unlike a traditional leasing agreement, the driver can return the car whenever they want and stop making payments.

Fair Insurance Can Be Added with Monthly Payments

Depending on which state the driver is located in, Fair drivers may be able to add Fair insurance as part of their monthly payment. This insurance is similar to the way Uber’s insurance works – if the driver is not driving for Uber they will still need to have their own policy. Their rideshare coverage, whether from Fair or another insurance company, will only cover them during working hours.

The Requirements of Fair Insurance

No matter who the driver choses to have coverage from, Fair requires that the car has full comprehensive and collision coverage. This includes the following:

  • Body Injury Liability: $50,000/person; $100,000/accident
  • Property Damage Liability: $50,000/accident
  • Comprehensive & Collision coverage is included with a $500 deductible
  • Uninsured Motorist (Bodily Injury Liability): $50,000/person
  • Underinsured Motorist (Bodily Injury Liability) $100,000/accident
  • Medical Payments Coverage $5,000

That said, if an Uber driver is working and providing rideshare services and they get into a car accident, Uber’s commercial policy should cover them.
