An event in June brought up some serious issues

Today we are going to discuss an event known as Every Second Matters. It was held in June by the Travelers Institute, which is a public policy division of a major property casualty insurance company. The event was held in June but the information is still very relevant. The purpose was to ensure that people are aware of the dangers of distracted driving. The event included details from new research data that showed that the issue of distracted driving is even more serious in the summer.

The data is fascinating

The data came from a study that was completed by a smartphone telematics platform known as TrueMotion. They used sensor data on its distracted driving mobile app. It is known as TrueMotion Family. By analyzing data, researchers were able to look at the behavior of more than 20,000 drivers. The dates they were studied began in January of 2017 and went through May of 2018. The results were interesting: Drivers are the most distracted in June, July, and August.

Why are rates of distracted driving so much higher in summer?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Association looked at the data and gave a few ideas about why the numbers fall the way they do. First, they said that there were more people driving in the summer months. In fact, drivers travel 20% more in the summer compared to other months. They also found that there were nearly 30% more fatal road accidents in June, July, and August compared to December, January, and February.

What to do if you are driving this summer

If you are taking off on a trip this summer, simply put your phone down while you are driving. If you need to do something on your phone, simply pull over and take care of it. Even if you are using your phone for just a few seconds while driving, you are still putting yourself – and the public – at danger.

If you have been injured in these types of accidents then we urge you to seek medical attention and to then reach out to Law Offices of Fernando D. Vargas at 909-982-0707 for a free legal consultation.
