Would you believe that Friday the 13th is more dangerous?

There are some stats about the most dangerous driving days in the state that make sense but there are some that are a little more confusing. For example, would you believe that the AAA report shows that Friday the 13ths have more accidents than other days? This is true compared to other days as a whole or when compared to Fridays only. Interestingly, accident rates rise by 13% on Friday the 13th – and the time of year doesn’t matter either.

Memorial Day weekend is an especially dangerous time to drive

The most dangerous time of year to driver appears to be Memorial Day weekend. There are about 400 car accident fatalities around the country on this weekend. Perhaps not surprisingly, about 44% of these accidents are related to alcohol. The next most dangerous day for driving is the Monday following the time change for spring daylight savings. There is a 17% jump in fatalities on that day, which experts say is related to driving while fatigued.

Minor accidents are most likely on Black Friday weekend

It’s likely not a surprise to many that Black Friday is the most likely time that a person will be rear-ended or involved in a parking lot accident. NFL fans may decide to stay home if they live near a stadium. Why? Because the evidence shows that claims against car insurance policies rise between 8% and 79%+ close to stadiums on game days.

All holidays see an uptick in accident statistics

Any holiday is a good day to avoid the roadways if possible. New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, the 4th of July, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and St. Patrick’s Day are all days with higher than average car accidents. Not surprisingly, they are all days on which many people attend parties where a lot of alcohol is consumed.
