4 of the Most Common Auto Defects That Can Result in Wrongful Death Lawsuits Today’s vehicles have some of the most advanced technology we’ve ever seen. That said, there is still a lot of room to grow. In fact, it may seem as though today’s safety features are likely to always keep you safe but the reality is that more new technology also means more potential for safety tech to go wrong. You may be surprised to discover four of the most common defects that end up resulting in wrongful death lawsuits against auto manufacturers.

  1. Issues with seat belts
In a perfect world, seat belts would do nothing but keep people safe. In reality, they can all too often not properly protect a person in the event of a car accident. For example, in some cases, a seat belt may lock up after an accident. This can in turn pin and trap the driver or passengers during an accident. On the other hand, the opposite can happen – a seat belt can unlatch when it’s not supposed to, which may result in an occupant not being held safely in their seat during an accident.
  2. Defects with airbag
Ideally, an air bag deploys immediately upon impact and offers the driver and / or their passengers a safety cushion that can significantly reduce the chances of catastrophic injury or death. However, if the airbag doesn’t inflate, then the driver and / or their passengers are likely to be much more vulnerable to injury or death.
  3. Tire defects
It’s incredibly common for there to be something seriously wrong with a tire and for an accident to occur. When there’s an issue with a tire and they fail, many high-risk accidents can occur. This may include rollover, car accidents, or slide outs. These issues can also affect other vehicles on the road. Drivers also run a risk of injury or even death when a tire fails and they’re changing it by the side of the road.
  4. Brake defects
Many people assume that they would know if their brakes were about to fail. They may be familiar with the grinding or shuddering that often comes before brake failure. However, those signs are only apparent if the issue is one of wear and tear. When there’s a sudden brake failure due to design defects, issues with the manufacturing process, or poor installation, there may be no sign at all and the driver may not be able to do anything to prevent hitting other vehicles on the road.
